SPSP1_zps96401276.jpgYes, this is another skort of mine :D

I'm very pleased that you guys liked the playsuit from my previous posts. I received a lot of kind words from you and they brought me lots of joy and motivation for further sewing :)
Anyway, Burda featured that playsuit once again, now as the member project of the week. Yay :)

Some people were interested in making their own skort, so today I will shortly tell you how to do it. I will focus on how to alter your trousers pattern. I'm not going to write here about sewing, since it is as easy as sewing an ordinary circle skirt :)

If you use this tutorial and create your own skort, show me what you did via comments or leave me a message at ugliness.blog@gmail.com. I'll be very grateful :)

Let's start!

Pattern choice
What we need is a simple pattern for trousers. The simpler, the better. Such patterns are often published in Burda and other sewing magazines. You can also get them online - you can use this or this model or download some free one, like this one. Choose whatever you like.
I used model #103 from Burda 12/2005.

Altering the pattern
We start with a basic pattern that probably looks similar to this:

Skort shouldn't be as fitted in crotch area as regular pants, so first thing we do is reshaping the crotch seam. Remove 5 cms or more.

If your patterns, like mine, has darts, remove them like this:

Next step is to draw lines along which we will be cutting the pattern. Draw 3 to 5 lines on each piece of pattern and cut. Don't cut the whole line, leave a few millimeters at the top.

Now you can spread the skort legs as wide as you need. If you want to sew skort that looks like a circle skirt, you need to spread the pattern pieces to 90 degrees, like in drawing below.
You can draw the modified pattern on a new piece of paper. Draw a new, neat lower edge. (drawn in pink in the pic)

Last touch-ups: smooth the side line and - this is important - cut 1-2 cm from the lower edge side, as pictured below.

The final pattern should look somewhat like this. Of course, we repeat the procedure with the other part of pattern :)

If everything went right, you now have a ready pattern for skort or faux skirt :)

Now what's left is 2 or 3 hours spent on cutting and sewing... And you're ready to go outside wearing your cute new skort to have some silly photos of yourself taken :)
